Oregon Gaming Laws
The State of Oregon
has entered into
class III gaming
compacts with
several Native
American Tribes.
The compacts permit
the tribes to
operate lottery
terminals, keno,
simulcast
pari-mutuel
wagering, and
blackjacks at the
tribal casinos.
After entering into
a compact with the
State of Oregon,
each tribe is
responsible for
obtaining licenses
for its employees
and vendors through
the Oregon State
Police.
In order to
obtain a license, a
vendor must first
negotiate a
contract with a
casino. When the
sales agreement has
been reached
between the two,
the casino then
files a letter of
intent with the
Oregon State Police
under the Gaming
Enforcement
Section. The State
Police will then
proceed with a
background
investigation of
the vendor to
determine whether
or not the vendor
is suitable for
business. If the
vendor is
determined suitable
by the State
Police, the
individual Tribal
Gaming Commission
issues a license to
the vendor.
The fees
involved in this
process include
licensing fee paid
by the tribe, and
background
investigation fee
paid by the vendor
to the State
Police.
